About Me
The first school of the decorative painting was open in Petrikivka in 1936. It played an important role in the development of this style of art. Professionals passed their creative skills from generation to generation, and made decorative painting an independent kind of Decorative Art.
Petrikivka is a decorative painting on paper, wood, and china where special techniques were used that made this style unique. The uniqueness of this style is that the artists use a small brush made from the cat fur which is very soft and delicate.
In 1975, I finished Advanced Courses in Decorative Design at the State College of Art
In 1973, my college friend invited me to a decorative design course she was taking at the State College of Art, and introduced me to Ukrainian Folk Art, called Petrikivka. It is one of the oldest styles created in Ukrainian Folk Art, based on floral ornaments, and came from the small village with the same name.
My instructor, Polina Hlushchenko, who taught the course of Decorative Design, was one of the famous masters of Petrikivka, related to the older generation of Ukrainian Folk artists. I was really lucky to have such a talented teacher and great human being, who introduced, taught, and inspired me to create, and continue the traditions of this unique style of the decorative design.
I dedicate this website to my parents, who always supported and encouraged me to do my artwork.
I have been using acrylic paints and egg tempera, continue working on my technical skills, and experimenting with different colors, backgrounds, and media. You could see my artwork using website's menu below, and Gallery
.
By showing my artwork, I would like to introduce the Ukrainian Folk Art to the people in my community, and from all over the world, and make them understand a different kind of art which explores not only another ethnic group. It also shows how this unique style of decorative painting based on floral ornaments and folk motifs and formerly used to decorate walls and household articles, is now widely applied to the art industry, book design, and décor.
